Job summary

Hermann Park Conservancy in Houston, TX seeks a dedicated Gardener to maintain the park's landscape and assist with community events. The role involves pruning, mulching, weeding, planting, irrigation support, and safe operation of various garden tools and equipment.

You will apply pesticides and fertilizers following IPM guidelines, prioritizing organic methods where possible. Interaction with the public and volunteers is routine, with focus on safety and stewardship.

Qualifications

• Minimum education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years in a garden, park, or landscaping setting preferred.
• Preferred certifications in horticulture or Master Gardener programs.

Responsibilities

• Perform landscape maintenance including pruning, mulching, weeding, planting and irrigation support.
• Operate equipment such as golf carts, blowers, power washers and spray gear.
• Apply pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers using IPM; emphasize organic methods when possible.
• Log all chemical use in compliance with laws and regulations.
• Assist volunteers and community groups on park projects and events.
• Monitor irrigation systems and report malfunctions to staff.
• Ensure safety and PPE compliance; work outdoors in varying conditions.
• Engage park visitors, educating on garden etiquette and stewardship.
