Job summary

Harris County is seeking a Caretaker to perform grounds maintenance for county parks, equipment and facilities under general supervision. You will operate tractors and other small equipment to maintain park appearance, assist with events, and respond during emergencies.

This is a full-time role with 4-10 hour shifts, outdoors in varying weather. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and one year of grounds maintenance experience; knowledge of tools, safety practices, and ability to

Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
One year of experience in grounds maintenance.
Knowledge of general construction tools and equipment with safe work practices.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor and operate maintenance equipment.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Establish and maintain effective working relations with others.
Ability to diffuse escalating situations.
Operate a smartphone/tablet to inspect equipment and submit work orders.

Responsibilities

Utilize hand and power tools in park landscape maintenance work.
Clean and maintain facilities including park restrooms, pavilions and grounds.
Assist with special events and routine group reservations (tables, chairs, equipment).
Respond during natural disasters and/or times of emergencies.
