Job summary

County of Kauaʻi is seeking a Park and Facility Worker II to supervise and perform a range of manual and semi-skilled tasks in the development, beautification, and maintenance of public parks and recreational areas.

The role involves operating passenger-type power mowers, greeting visitors with historical and botanical information, and ensuring public safety and property protection under civil service guidelines.

Qualifications

• A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school.
• One year of work experience in the care, maintenance, and beautification of landscaped areas; and/or the operation or repair of passenger type mowers.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and participates in raking, trimming, fertilizing, and watering of lawns, plants, shrubbery in landscaped areas set aside for public use.
• Propagates plants and shrubs from seeds, cuttings, and roots.
• Sprays insecticides and herbicides to eradicate insects and weeds.
• Cleans and repairs comfort stations, shelters, pavilions, and other facilities in parks and recreational areas.
• Repairs and supervises repairs to comfort stations, shelters, and structures.
• Supervises construction and repair of fences, walls, benches, and related park structures.
• Operates passenger type power mowers and maintains equipment.
• Plans landscaping operations and modifications to existing plans.
• Prepares park areas for athletic events and maintains fields.
