Job summary

Decatur Park District is seeking a skilled Mechanic to perform repair and maintenance on a variety of motor vehicles, heavy equipment, mowing gear, and power tools. Under supervision, you will diagnose issues, replace worn parts, and ensure mechanical systems are operating safely and efficiently.

The role requires reading safety and maintenance manuals, basic math, and a Class A CDL license. This in-house position offers a stable schedule and the opportunity to work with a dedicated Parks

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent; 6 months to 1 year related experience or training.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and manuals.
• Math skills: perform basic arithmetic, rates, ratios, and percentages.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs and preventative maintenance on vehicles, heavy equipment, mowing equipment, and power tools.
• Determine scope of repairs needed on automotive and landscaping equipment.
• Repair, maintain, and troubleshoot gasoline and diesel powered equipment including trucks, tractors, and mowing equipment.
• Rebuild or replace parts such as pistons, rods, gears, and bearings.
• Load, unload, and operate District vehicles and heavy equipment as needed.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
