Job summary

The Decatur Park District invites applications for a Mechanic in the Parks Department. Under direct supervision, you will perform mechanical repair and maintenance on motor vehicles, heavy equipment, mowing equipment, and power tools used by the District.

This role requires the ability to read safety rules and operating manuals, and to diagnose and repair gasoline and diesel systems, brakes, engines, and electrical components. Illinois CDL Class A is required.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or six months to one year related experience.
  • Ability to read safety rules and operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Illinois Commercial Driver's License, Class A required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs repairs and preventative maintenance on golf cars and trucksters, including gas engines and electric motors and all types of bodies.
  • Determines scope of repairs needed on automotive and landscaping equipment.
  • Repairs, maintains and troubleshoots gasoline and diesel powered and unpowered equipment.
  • Rebuilds or replaces components such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, bearings, carburetors.
  • Operates District vehicles and heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
