Job summary

St Mary Roman Catholic Parish is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee all financial operations across the parish, schools, and related entities. You will ensure GAAP compliance, supervise payroll, reporting, and internal controls, and partner with the Pastor and Finance Council on budgets and audits.

You will lead month-end close, donor data integrity in Flocknote Giving, and compliance with Diocesan policies while coordinating around multiple church sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
• Minimum 5 years in general accounting or equivalent experience.
• CPA and nonprofit background are a plus but not required.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• GAAP knowledge and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee financial operations and ensure compliance with Diocesan policies, including payroll, cash management, investments, and fund accounting.
• Support the Pastor in the financial management of the Parish and stewardship of donations.
• Provide timely and accurate financial reporting to Pastor, Finance Council, and Diocese of Phoenix.
• Collaborate to prepare, administer, and review annual operating and capital budgets and fundraising campaigns.
• Attend Finance Council meetings and present financial line items, including YTD balances and variances.
• Oversee internal controls and segregation of duties around cash and reporting.
• Maintain accuracy of parishioners’ and donors in Flocknote Giving; review journal entries for month-end.
• Distribute year-end Giving Statements and issue IRS-compliant donor acknowledgments.
• Participate in staff activities, training, and adherence to Diocesan policies.
