Job summary

Diocese of Austin seeks an Accounting and Finance Manager to lead all accounting operations for the parish and its school, including the general ledger, payroll, reconciliations, and financial reporting. This role reports to the Director of Business Operations and requires collaboration with the Finance Council.

The position emphasizes strong internal controls, strategic budgeting, and compliance with Diocesan policies and canon law.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
• Five (5) or more years of related accounting experience. Nonprofit or fund accounting experience preferred.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks for Non-Profits, Excel, and payroll platforms.
• Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing preferred.
• Valid Texas driver's license required.
• Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.

Responsibilities

• Direct the accounting function across the parish and the school.
• Direct full accounting cycle: general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, reconciliations, donations, financial reporting, internal controls and budgeting.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the Pastor, Finance Council, and Diocesan offices; develop budget reports and forecasts.
• Partner with leadership to develop long-term financial plans, capital reserves, and annual operating budgets.
• Monitor cash flow, oversee investment/savings accounts, and perform variance analysis for decision making.
• Act as primary staff liaison to Parish Finance Council for budget health and risk management.
• Ensure compliance with Diocesan policies, canon law, and applicable tax and labor laws.
• Maintain robust internal controls and support annual audits.
• Oversee payroll processing and HR-related records in coordination with Diocesan HR guidelines.
• Serve as Diocese contact for parish and school accounting.
• Maintain availability to support parish and school staff, clergy, and volunteers.
