Job summary

Diocese of Austin is seeking a Controller to oversee financial reporting for the diocese and related entities. The role develops accounting principles, manages budgeting, investments and general ledger systems, and provides leadership to the accounting team.

The Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer and operates with substantial independence to ensure accurate, timely financial statements and compliance with nonprofit standards and diocesan policies.

Qualifications

• Ten years of full-time wage-earning experience in financial reporting, preferably for a not-for-profit organization.
• Five years of full-time wage-earning experience supervising with responsibility for financial statement preparation and consolidation, tax reporting and budget preparation.
• Bachelor’s degree in business with an emphasis in accounting; CPA or MBA preferred.
• English proficiency in reading and writing.
• Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Manage monthly close for three companies and related funds within the diocese.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and analyses for all segments.
• Coordinate and assist with external audits and actuarial valuations.
• Maintain understanding of financial reporting and general ledger structure and supervise accounting staff.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and implementation of new procedures.
• Protect diocesan assets by enforcing policies and internal controls.
