Job summary

The Archdiocese of Chicago, serving a large Catholic community, seeks a Maintenance Technician for St. Gregory of Nyssa Parish in Schaumburg. The role covers custodial services, routine maintenance, small repairs, and event support for parish facilities and grounds.

Under the Facilities Supervisor, you will prepare spaces for liturgies, weddings, and events, handle safety and security tasks, and assist clergy, staff, parishioners, and contractors. Evening and weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

• Experience with general building maintenance and custodial practices.
• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and custodial equipment.
• Basic knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical, and mechanical maintenance.
• Ability to read instructions and safety information.
• Effective communication with clergy, staff, parishioners and visitors.
• Ability to work independently and adjust to priorities.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, Holy Days, holidays, or special events.
• Valid driver's license when required.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and climb ladders.

Responsibilities

• Open, inspect, prepare, and secure parish buildings according to schedules.
• Prepare churches for Masses and liturgies and events.
• Set up rooms and equipment for parish activities and events.
• Inspect public areas for hazards before activities.
• Respond promptly to facility needs identified by clergy and staff.
• Clean churches, offices, classrooms, kitchens, restrooms, and other spaces.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs in plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical, and mechanical areas.
• Observe and report deficiencies in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and lighting systems.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and storage areas in a safe condition.
• Provide access and assistance to contractors and vendors.
