Job summary

Sacred Heart Church in West Des Moines, IA seeks a Facilities Manager to oversee the operation, maintenance, and safety of parish facilities, grounds, and equipment. This full-time role reports to the Business Manager and works with clergy, staff, volunteers, and vendors to support the parish mission.

The successful candidate will develop maintenance schedules, manage budgets and records, supervise contractors, and ensure compliance with safety and diocesan regulations while fostering a positive

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in building operation and/or maintenance.
• Has a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• Experience in directing and collaborating volunteers.
• Ability to solve problematic situations in varied conditions.
• Preferred familiarity with the Catholic faith.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and Google applications.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe and secure physical environment for the parish community.
• Maintain cleanliness, appearance, functionality and upkeep of buildings, grounds, and equipment.
• Develop equipment replacement and facilities upkeep schedules; arrange approved replacements.
• Develop process improvements to enhance functions or financial performance.
• Work with the Business Manager to maintain records of equipment purchases and facilities documents.
• Schedule routine and special cleaning projects and equipment repairs.
• Direct and collaborate with volunteers and vendors on maintenance and projects.
• Assist with risk management, facilities management, budget expenditures, and technology infrastructure support.
• Make routine purchases of maintenance and cleaning supplies with safety first.
• Recommend use of outside contractors for tasks beyond staff expertise; ensure codes and Diocesan regulations are met.
• Schedule and supervise contractors onsite.
• Perform routine maintenance such as lawn care, janitorial, and laundry duties.
