Newark Board of Education in New Jersey seeks a Parent Liaison/Senior Community Aide for School Year 2026-2027 at multiple Newark locations. Under supervision, you will explain school programs to parents and community members and support engagement with the education system.

This civil service role involves coordinating workshops, informing families, and acting as a liaison among parents, schools, and social agencies. Ten-month term, provisional placement followed by examination.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in community service work involved in explaining the role of the local school system and related educational programs to residents of the community.
• Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
• Satisfactory completion of 30 semester hours of credit at an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required work experience.

Responsabilités

• Arranges for the conducting of workshops at various schools for parents of children that are educationally and socially deprived in order to inform them of the education program's provisions, services, and other functions offered within the school system.
• Compiles and collects basic information and material to help the school involve the parents in the activities of the children.
• Coordinates community wide conferences with parents in order to involve them in their children's education.
• Conducts meetings with parents and interprets and explains the various provisions of the education program so that they are able to help their children at home.
• Meets with parent groups and helps individual parents resolve problems with their children by making referrals to appropriate persons in order to have problem corrected.
