Job summary

EdAdvance is seeking a Parent Educator for the Parents as Teachers program in Northwestern Connecticut. The role involves conducting weekly home visits, coordinating group activities, and connecting families with health, nutrition, safety, and developmental resources.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in early childhood, human services, social work or related field.
  • Experience with at-risk families, infants, toddlers, and young children.
  • Knowledge of local resources and support services in the community.
  • Excellent relational, organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience with Home Visitation services preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive in Northwestern CT.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and conduct weekly home visits providing parent education and support for child development, health, nutrition and safety.
  • Complete assessments and screenings on schedule.
  • Design and facilitate monthly group activities with colleagues to support parent connection.
  • Participate in professional development through supervision and training.
  • Enter data accurately in required databases within specified timeframes.
  • Share educational materials and resources with families and colleagues.
  • Participate in community collaboratives as directed.

Reports to: Program Supervisor, Parents As Teachers in the division of Early Childhood & Family Programs.

Job Description

EdAdvance is seeking a Parent Educator for the Parents as Teachers program. The qualified candidate will be professional, organized, and able to work independently. Parents as Teachers is a national evidence-based model providing weekly home visits, monthly group activities, and resource connections for families of young children. The model focuses on supporting the families' health and social emotional well-being.

Major Responsibilities
  • Partner with parents to schedule and keep weekly home visits providing parent education and support for child development; health, nutrition and safety; parent-child interaction activities; individual/family goals and resource connections
  • Complete all required assessments and screenings on schedule
  • Design and facilitate monthly group activities with colleagues to support parent connection
  • Active participation in professional development through regular supervision and training
  • Enter all data accurately within required time periods in required databases
  • Seek and share educational/material and other resources with colleagues and families
  • Participate in community collaboratives as directed
Skills & Qualifications
  • Preferred Spanish and English fluency - written and spoken
  • Minimum of bachelor's degree in early childhood, Human Services, Social Work or related field
  • Experience working with at-risk families, infants, toddlers, and young children
  • Knowledge of resources and support systems in the service communities
  • Strong relational, organizational and communication skills
  • Experience with Home Visitation services and working with extended families preferred
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive personal vehicle around northwestern CT
  • Physical ability to lift and carry 25 pounds for delivering materials, assisting at group, etc.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this job
