Job summary

The Early Childhood Collaborative of Ansonia, Derby, Seymour, and Shelton is seeking a Part-time Parent Ambassador in New Haven, CT. The role focuses on welcoming families, sharing resources, and building relationships to support student success and family involvement.

Responsibilities

• Provide brief monthly updates to Community Table on outreach activities and outcomes.
• Encourage parent participation in school activities and volunteering.
• Support an inclusive environment where all families feel valued and heard.
• Attend community events and participate in advocacy efforts at local/state levels.
• Attend onboarding trainings and professional development opportunities.
• Collect data and feedback from families to evaluate programs and suggest improvements.
• Additional responsibilities may be required as the work evolves.

About the Position

Are you an enthusiastic, engaged parent/grandparent who believes in the power of community and the importance of parent involvement in education? Do you enjoy connecting with others, sharing resources, and building relationships? We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Parent Ambassador to join our team and help foster a supportive, inclusive, and engaged early childhood community.

Position: Parent Ambassador

Employment Type: Part-time (approximately 10 to 12 hours per month)

Reports To: Local Governance Parter (LGP) Liaison

Time Commitment: This is a part-time position. Day, evening and weekend hours will be discussed. The number of hours per month may vary depending on community needs and event schedules.

Compensation: $25 per hour

Role Summary

The Parent Ambassador serves as a bridge between the parents, and the early childhood community. This individual will lead efforts to welcome new families, communicate key information, and build relationships that support student success and family involvement. The successful candidate will be a passionate advocate for student achievement, equity, diversity, and open communication.

Key Responsibilities

• Welcome new families and build connections to help them integrate into the community by providing information and sharing resources relevant to families with young children
• Organize and facilitate regular parent meetings, community outreach events, workshops, and informational sessions on topics relevant to family engagement and student success.
• Collaborate with the Community Table members to support initiatives and events.
• Monthly Reporting: Provide brief monthly updates to the Community Table members on outreach activities, family needs, and success stories.
• Encourage and coordinate parent participation in school activities, volunteer opportunities, and decision-making processes.
• Support efforts to create an inclusive environment where all families feel valued and heard.
• Attend community events and participate in advocacy efforts up to the state level.
• Attend onboarding trainings, quarterly statewide communities of practice (CoP), professional development, and in-person parent leadership opportunities.
• Collect data and feedback from families to help evaluate programs and suggest improvements.
• Additional responsibilities may be required/assigned as the work evolves.

Qualifications

• Must be a parent, grandparent, or guardian with lived experience in the communities of Ansonia, Derby, Seymour, or Shelton.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to listen actively and communicate clearly and empathetically.
• Strong organizational skills; able to manage multiple tasks and coordinate events or initiatives.
• Familiarity with early childhood services is a plus.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships across diverse communities.
• Comfort with digital communication tools, such as email, social media, and basic document creation.
• Must be able and willing to travel as required to attend local community events, and regional/statewide meetings and trainings.
• Bilingual or multilingual skills are highly desirable.
