The Fueler / Mechanic Assistant supports daily transit operations by fueling vehicles, checking fluid levels, recording fuel data, inspecting for visible damage, and helping keep the yard, fuel island, buildings, and grounds clean and safe so paratransit vehicles are ready to dispatch on time.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• CDL Class A or B, or ability to obtain one within hire timeframe.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
• Strong attention to detail in logs, reports, and inspections.
• Excellent communication with drivers, managers, and maintenance staff.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather.
• Flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, or holidays.
• Follow safety procedures around fuels and spill containment.

Responsibilities

• Open gates and prepare parking lot and fuel island for daily operations.
• Check parking areas for safe dispatch readiness.
• Reposition vehicles to maintain traffic flow.
• Fuel paratransit vehicles and record readings accurately.
• Move vehicles between locations.
• Maintain fuel-related records (RFRs, Variance, Month-End, Meter Calibrations).
• Notify management when fuel deliveries are needed.
• Follow safety procedures during fuel deliveries.
• Check and fill vehicle fluids (oil, antifreeze, power steering fluid, transmission fluid, brake fluid, windshield washer).
• Inspect belts and report issues to maintenance.
• Check tires for damage and proper air pressure.
• Report tire/vehicle damage to shop or management.
• Maintain spill-barrel inventory and assist with spill containment.
• Keep fuel island stocked with daily supplies.
• Clean vehicle interiors/exteriors as needed.
• Assist with light building and grounds maintenance.
• Complete additional tasks as assigned.
