Job summary

First Student, Inc. is seeking a Fueler / Utility Worker to support daily paratransit operations by fueling vehicles, checking fluids, and maintaining fuel records. The role keeps the yard, fuel island, and fleet area clean and safe, ensuring vehicles are ready to dispatch on time.

This hands-on, outdoor position requires attention to logs and inspections, strong communication with maintenance and operations, and flexibility for extended hours or weekends based on business needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Strong time-management and prioritization skills are essential.
• Attention to detail in logs, reports, and inspections is critical.
• Professional communication with drivers, managers, and maintenance staff is required.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality are necessary for daily operations.
• Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and extended hours.

Responsibilities

• Open gates and prepare the parking lot and fuel island for daily operations
• Check paratransit parking areas to ensure vehicles can be dispatched safely and on time
• Reposition vehicles in the yard to maintain traffic flow
• Fuel paratransit vehicles and record readings accurately
• Maintain fuel-related records (bulk fuel receiving, variance, month-end closing, meter calibration)
• Notify management when fuel deliveries are needed
• Follow proper procedures around fuel deliveries
• Check and fill vehicle fluids (oil, antifreeze, power steering, transmission, brake, washer fluid)
• Inspect belts and report issues
• Check tires twice per week for damage and air pressure
• Report tire or vehicle damage promptly
• Maintain spill-barrel inventory and assist with spill containment
• Keep fuel island stocked with supplies for daily checks
• Clean vehicle interiors and exteriors as needed
• Assist with light building/grounds maintenance and yard cleanliness
• Complete additional tasks as assigned by management
