Job summary

Transdev in Oakland, CA is seeking Paratransit Drivers to provide safe transportation for riders, including seniors and people with disabilities. You will operate paratransit vehicles, assist passengers, and ensure vehicle readiness in a compliant, courteous, and professional manner.

Qualifications include a valid CDL with P endorsement, at least 3 years of driving experience, and strong English communication.

• 21 years or older.
• Valid Commercial Driver's License (Class A, B, or C) with P - Passenger Endorsement.
• Minimum 3 years of driving experience (personal or professional).
• Safe driving record.
• Ability to effectively communicate in English, in person and via radio.

Responsibilities

• Route & Safety Operations: Operate paratransit vehicles safely while navigating manifests and adapting to real-time schedule changes.
• Passenger Assistance & ADA Compliance: Provide direct assistance to elderly and disabled passengers during boarding, transport, and disembarkation; operate wheelchair lifts and secure mobility devices.
• Vehicle Readiness: Conduct pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections and report defects promptly.

Paratransit Driver

We are currently seeking drivers to join our elite team in Oakland, CA. As a key member, you will be entrusted with ensuring safe and comfortable transportation for our passengers, while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and customer service.

CBA Position:

Position Subject to Collective Bargaining Agreement:

• $27.50 hourly starting pay, with progression to $33.89 over 7 years.

Benefits include:

• Vacation: 5 days after 1 year

Key Responsibilities:

• Route & Safety Operations: Operate paratransit vehicles safely while navigating assigned manifests, adapting to real-time schedule adjustments, and ensuring strict compliance with all traffic laws and transit regulations.

• Passenger Assistance & ADA Compliance: Provide direct, compassionate physical assistance to elderly passengers and individuals with disabilities during boarding, transport, and disembarkation. Safely operate wheelchair lifts and properly deploy mobility device securements.

• Vehicle Readiness: Conduct comprehensive pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections of the vehicle and specialized accessibility equipment, promptly documenting and reporting any maintenance defects.

Physical Requirements:

The essential functions of this position require the ability to:

• Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions. Portions of the job are performed outside the vehicle, often working alone and occasionally in remote locations.

• Sit for extended periods (up to 10 hours per day); occasionally walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces.

• Push and pull heavy objects occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to lift items or secure equipment found at ground level.

• Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
