Job summary

ReNEW Schools is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional to support teachers in delivering instruction to students with IEPs. The role involves assisting with small groups, implementing behavior plans, and monitoring student progress under supervision.

Hours are 5.75 per day for 182 days a year; duties include test support, material preparation, and supervising activities. The position emphasizes confidentiality and a collaborative school environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Implement IEP and Behavior Plan under the supervision of the teacher.
  • Assist the teacher with diagnostic tests when needed.
  • Monitors and provides assistance to student’s behavioral needs.
  • Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  • Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and makeup work, as assigned by the teacher.
  • Assists with such group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling.
  • Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
  • Assist the teacher with copying and laminating student materials.
  • Supervise recess or lunch duties.
  • Uphold the mission of WCSC.
  • Alerts the regular teacher to any problems or special problems about an individual student.
  • Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
  • Assist students with health and self-help needs, to include but not limited to feeding, toileting, positioning, and dressing.This may require operating specialized equipment.
  • Attends to students’ personal needs.
  • Record keeping as assigned by the teacher.
  • Other duties as assigned by the building administrator.
  • Attends monthly staff meetings.
  • Is an active participant in staff development.

POSITION PURPOSE:

To assist the teacher to achieve teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
