Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Attend promptly and regularly and support the teacher with instruction per lesson plans.
• Assist with record keeping, data collection, and clerical tasks.
• Participate in school functions, field trips, and extracurricular activities as directed.
• Engage in ongoing in-service training and collaboration with staff.
• Support hall duty and bus loading/unloading as assigned.
• Perform clerical duties to aid teachers/administrators in maintaining records.
• Assist medically fragile students with routine care as needed.
• Help move students between areas and position them for instruction.
• Assist with instruction, positioning, and related therapy as directed.
• Maintain sanitary environments and handle body fluids per universal precautions.
• Assist with community-based instruction per State guidelines.
• Monitor classroom during teacher’s absence (IEP meetings/work planning).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Assistassigned teaching personnel in the supervision and instruction ofstudents with special needs; performing classroom clerical tasks; and assisting students by meeting special health care needs and developing students; daily living and behavioral skills.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Educational Level:

Minimum 60 semester/100 quarter hours of eligible college hoursORpassing score on the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment Test (https://www.gace.es.pearson.com ) is required. If submitting GACE scores, you will also need to provide verification of completion of a HS diploma or GED

2. Certification/License:

Must maintain Georgia Paraprofessional Certificate which include in-service training related to position

4. Physical Activities:

Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities; ability to lift a student up to a weight of 50 pounds without assistance; ability to perform a two person lift for students over 50 pounds.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• 1. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
• 2. Assists the classroom teacher in the preparation and implementation of instructional programs in accordance with lesson plans.
• 3. Assists classroom teacher with the record keeping process and data collection.
• 4. Participates in school functions, field trips and extracurricular activities as indicated under the direction of the teacher.
• 5. Participates in on-going in-service training.
• 6. Assists with hall duty and bus loading and unloading as directed.
• 7. Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or administrator in providing records/materials.
• 8. Administers assistance to medically fragile children (e.g. tube feeding, toileting, diapering,food preparation, etc. and other delegated medical procedures) as required for assigned students.
• 9. Assists with the movement of students from one area of the school to another or to a specialized position.
• 10. Assists with instruction, positioning, and therapy as directed by related service personnel.
• 11. Assists in maintaining a sanitary environment and handles body fluids following universal procedures.
• 12. Assists in implementing community based instruction or community/campus based skills training without direct on-site supervision in accordance with State guidelines.
• 13. Monitors the classroom during teacher’s participation in IEP meetings or other activities/planning which require the teacher to be out of the room.
• 14. Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
