Job summary

Gwinnett County Public Schools is seeking a paraprofessional educator to support teachers and students through individualized and small-group assistance, reinforcing instruction and aiding classroom management to foster a positive learning environment.

The role also involves preparing instructional materials, supervising activities, monitoring student progress, checking work, organizing learning resources with the media center, and assisting with bus and hallway supervision as needed.

Qualifications

• Paraprofessional Educator certificate PSC Required
• H.S. Diploma or GED or equivalent and passed Praxis Parapro Assessment (before Mar 1, 2007) or the GACE Parapro Assessment Required
• In lieu of assessments, 60 semester or 90 quarter hours from a PSC-approved college or university are Required

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers and students by working with students individually or in small groups
• Assess performance, reinforce instruction, and motivate learning
• Assist with classroom management and other non-instructional functions
• Provide instruction to students as prescribed by the supervising teacher
• Utilize games, stories, or other constructive activities to enhance students’ learning skills
• Assist teachers in checking and evaluating students' work
• Assist in managing student behavior and maintaining classroom order
• Escort students as required
• Assist in preparation of lesson plans and teacher pre-planning sessions
• Provide input and assistance in developing classroom activities and learning tools
• Assist in diagnosing student math and communication skills
• Monitor progressive learning skills of students
• Ensure teacher is aware of student learning deficiencies
• Document records of learning activities and diagnosis
• Prepare instructional materials
• Perform tasks like copying materials, laminating, typing, and filing
• Coordinate with media center staff for classroom resources
• Set up equipment in classroom for instructional objectives
• Prepare instructional reports and required forms and data
• Maintain attendance records and assign student seating
• Learn assigned bus routes
• Monitor hallways, lunchroom, restrooms, and bus duty as requested
• Ensure appropriate student conduct during these periods
• Escort students to designated activity areas
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Physical demands include sitting, talking, standing, walking; may lift up to 25 pounds
