Ampersand Therapy is hiring a Paraprofessional for a full-time, school-year position in Independence, MO. Starting September 2026, the role provides 1:1 or small group support to students with significant needs under a collaborative school team.

We offer W-2 employment with liability insurance, healthcare benefits, a 401(k) match, mileage reimbursement, and ongoing mentorship to help you grow in special education.

Qualifications

• Must have 60 college credit hours OR completed the 20 hour substitute certificate course OR have passed the ParaPathways/ParaPro assessment.
• Experience working with children or individuals with significant support needs or disabilities preferred.
• School-based or paraprofessional experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 or small group support to students with significant support needs.
• Assist students with academic activities, communication, and daily living skills as needed.
• Implement behavior support plans and instructional strategies under the direction of the classroom team.
• Support students with mobility, transitions, and classroom participation.
• Reinforce social, emotional, communication, and functional life skills.
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, therapists, and related service providers.
• Help maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment.
• Maintain basic documentation as needed.

In this role, you’ll provide individualized support to students with significant support needs, helping them build independence, participate in classroom activities, and achieve their educational goals.
