Job summary

Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (EMS) seeks a qualified Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic to respond in an IEMS vehicle for scheduled special events. You will deliver basic and advanced life support at the scene, during transport, and in the emergency department, coordinating with physicians, nurses and other staff per established protocols.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Indiana Paramedic License required.
• Currently working in a 911 setting within Marion County or the surrounding counties.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification.
• American Heart Association CPR Certification.
• Emergency Vehicle Operator Certification.
• Continuing education to maintain required certifications.

Responsibilities

• Responds in an IEMS vehicle for coverage of a scheduled special event as directed by the Planning Section Chief.
• Provides specific medical care in conjunction with physician, nursing and allied health staff in the hospital in accordance with established practices and protocols.
• Calculates drip rates and drug concentrations, renders appropriate approved intravenous drugs or fluid replacement as indicated by online medical direction and/or established EMS Protocols.
• Documents in writing or by approved electronic means all relevant information in a prescribed format (I.E. Run Report, ESO Report).
• Responsible and accountable for maintaining controlled medications (narcotics).
• Drives an emergency vehicle under emergent and non-emergent conditions.
• Exercises independent judgment in critical, emergency situations.
• Coordinates public safety personnel in emergency situations.
• Attends continuing education, refresher courses, medical audit programs and training programs as required by IEMS, medical direction, or certifying agency.
• Participates actively in continuing education and medical audit programs.
