Job summary

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough seeks an experienced paramedic to provide Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support in out-of-hospital environments.

The role requires five years of direct patient care in prehospital or clinical settings and completion of an accredited paramedic program.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

This position provides Basic Life Support care and Advanced Life Support care for patients in out-of-hospital environments.

Work is performed and duties are carried out in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Borough core values: Accountability, Customer Focus, Dedication, Integrity, Responsiveness and Teamwork.

P1 - P5 - DOE

High school diploma, or equivalent; and completion of an accredited paramedic training program.

Five (5) years of direct patient care experience in a prehospital or clinical setting, sufficient to understand the major duties of the position. Relevant experience and skills may include but are not limited to: Providing care in a prehospital, clinical, or remote settings; operating and maintaining emergency vehicles and medical equipment; conducting patient assessments and critical interventions in dynamic environments; coordinating with hospital and public safety personnel; performing patient care in non-traditional settings such as industrial sites, remote field operations, and clinical facilities; and managing medical documentation, reporting, and regulatory compliance.

Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Must be at least 19 years of age with one (1) year of driving experience.

Possession of State of Alaska Paramedic license or National Registry Paramedic License is required at time of hire.

Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen, physical, respirator fit test and physical ability test (PAT) in addition to an annual respirator fit test and PAT test. Must complete a baseline audiometry screening and will be required to undergo annual testing as part of the Hearing Conservation Program. Must complete the Hepatitis B vaccination series and maintain a current Tetanus (Td or Tdap) vaccination, or provide signed declinations, in accordance with applicable health and safety guidelines. Must complete Tuberculosis (TB) screening, or provide signed declination, in accordance with applicable health and safety guidelines.

Completion of Incident Command System (ICS) courses, IC 100 and IS 700 within ninety (90) days of hire and IC 200 and IS 800 within one (1) year of hire.

• Assesses, provides appropriate medical care, and transports sick and/or injured patients in a variety of settings and environments, including residences, businesses, work sites, roadways, etc.
• Ensures appropriate continuum of patient care by communicating patient status and transferring patients to receiving facilities or other entities such as regional hospitals, specialty care centers, medevac providers, etc.
• Operates emergency vehicles and equipment in accordance with accepted safety standards.
• Communicates effectively via radio or direct contact with mutual aid resources and allied health professionals.
• Prepares and submits clear and accurate documentation of all emergency response and patient encounters.
• Maintains accountability for the condition, readiness, and proper use of all applicable apparatus, equipment, and medical supplies, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards for emergency response.
• Provides education/training, precepts EMS interns, and participates in mentoring EMS and rescue personnel.
• When staffing the EOC performs the functions assigned by the Event Commander to efficiently and effectively respond and manage an incident.
• Performs related duties.
