The Opportunity

Responsible for evaluating donor suitability for automated pheresis procedures, administering and supervising approved immunizations (excluding red blood cell immunizations), and providing limited emergency medical care to donors and staff, including medication or treatments in accordance with licensure or certification.

The Role

• Promote positive customer relations with all donors.
• Conduct confidential interviews to determine donor suitability.
• Respond to medically related questions with the Center Medical Director and/or Center Physician.
• Perform medical history reviews, health assessments, and evaluate donor screening and lab results.
• Notify and counsel donors regarding reactive test results and refer for follow-up.
• Explain informed consent, including procedures, hazards, and rights.
• Handle medical emergencies as per SOPs and maintain emergency kits.
• Review test results for continued donor suitability and maintain compliance with SOPs.
• Assess signs and symptoms that may affect donation ability.
• Oversee donor immunization programs and review antibody titer results.
• Accurately record donor data in the electronic system.
• Maintain a clean work environment, ensure supplies, and follow safety policies.
• Maintain confidentiality of all information.
• Possibly cross-train in other areas and utilize bilingual skills if required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Your Skills And Experience

Education

• Graduation from a paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, medical school, or naturopathic program.
• Foreign medical graduates must be licensed or certified accordingly.

Experience

• At least 1 year in a healthcare environment.
• Experience in plasma or blood collection preferred.
• Ability to assess heart, lung sounds, and signs of drug use.
• Ability to instruct donors and staff on plasma donation benefits.

Working Conditions

• Decision-making with moderate impact.
• Ability to follow instructions, observe, and assess physical signs.
• Manual dexterity, ability to lift up to 25 pounds, and work in a fast-paced, sometimes hazardous environment.
