The Opportunity
Responsible for evaluating donor suitability for automated pheresis procedures. Administers and supervises approved immunizations other than red blood cell immunizations. Provides limited emergency medical care to donors and staff, including medication or treatment administration in accordance with licensure or certification.
You will report to the Center Manager.
The Role
- Promotes positive customer relations with all donors.
- Conducts confidential interviews with donors to assess their suitability to donate plasma.
- Works with the Center Medical Director and/or Center Physician to respond to medically related questions from staff, including donor suitability and medical issues.
- Performs medical history reviews and health assessments on donors. Reviews donor screening and lab results to determine ongoing suitability.
- Notifies and counsels donors regarding reactive test results. Refers donors for follow-up and counseling as needed.
- Explains informed consent, including procedures, hazards, adverse events, immunization schedules, doses, and antibody responses. Ensures donors understand and voluntarily consent.
- Handles medical emergencies per SOPs, providing routine care and escalating as necessary. Checks emergency kits regularly.
- Reviews test results to determine continued donor eligibility, following SOPs regarding acceptable ranges and approvals.
- Assesses signs and symptoms that may affect donation ability.
- Oversees donor immunization programs, reviews antibody titers, and maintains knowledge of immunization schedules.
- Accurately records donor data in the electronic system per SOPs.
- Maintains a clean work environment, ensures supplies are available, and follows HSE and OSHA policies. Promotes safety and conducts routine audits.
- Maintains confidentiality of all personnel and donor information.
- May be cross-trained in other areas to support business needs.
- Bilingual skills may be required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Your skills and experience
Education
- Graduation from a paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, medical school, or naturopathic medical training program.
- If from a foreign medical school, must be licensed or certified accordingly.
Experience
- At least one year in a healthcare environment.
- Experience in plasma or blood collection preferred.
- Ability to perform and analyze physical assessments.
- Ability to instruct donors, staff, and community on plasma donation benefits.
Working Conditions
- Ability to make decisions impacting the work unit.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Must see, speak with customers, and observe equipment.
- Stand and walk frequently; perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
- Lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Work in a fast-paced environment with interruptions.
- Exposure to chemicals, extreme temperatures, and blood-borne pathogens.
- Wear PPE as required.
- Work overtime as needed.
