The Opportunity
Responsible for evaluating donor suitability for automated pheresis procedures. Administers and supervises approved immunizations other than red blood cell immunizations. Provides limited emergency medical care to donors and staff, including medication or treatment administration in accordance with licensure or certification.
You will report to the Center Manager.
The Role
- Promotes positive customer relations with all donors.
- Conducts confidential interviews with donors to assess their suitability for plasma donation.
- Collaborates with the Center Medical Director and/or Center Physician to address medically related questions from staff, including donor suitability and medical issues.
- Performs medical history reviews and health assessments; evaluates donor screening and lab tests for suitability.
- Notifies and counsels donors about reactive test results and refers them for follow-up and counseling.
- Explains informed consent, including procedures, hazards, immunization schedules, and obtains signatures.
- Handles medical emergencies per SOPs, provides routine care, and checks emergency kits regularly.
- Reviews test results to determine continued donor suitability, adhering to SOPs regarding test ranges and approval periods.
- Assesses signs and symptoms that may disqualify a donor.
- Oversees donor immunization programs, reviews antibody titers, and maintains immunization schedules.
- Accurately records donor data in the electronic system as per SOPs.
- Maintains a clean work environment, ensures supplies are available, and follows HSE and OSHA policies, promoting safety.
- Maintains confidentiality of personnel, donor, and center information.
- May be cross-trained in other areas as needed.
- Bilingual skills may be required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Your skills and experience
Education
- Graduation from a paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, medical school, or naturopathic medical training program.
- Foreign medical graduates must be licensed or certified as required.
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year in a healthcare environment.
- Experience in plasma or blood collection centers preferred.
- Ability to perform and analyze physical assessments.
- Ability to educate donors, staff, and community about plasma donation benefits.
Working Conditions
- Decision-making with moderate impact.
- Ability to follow instructions and observe safety protocols.
- Requires standing, walking, and manual dexterity.
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Fast-paced environment with exposure to hazards and blood-borne pathogens.
- Use of PPE required.
- Overtime and extended hours may be necessary.
