Job summary

The Staff Pad and a leading nonprofit healthcare system in Helena, Montana, seek a Paramedic to deliver rapid EMS care across 911 response, inter-facility transport, and ED support in a dynamic pre-hospital and hospital setting.

You will work with emergency teams in high‑pressure environments, using advanced EMS equipment and procedures. Minimum 2 years EMS experience, Montana Paramedic license, and related certifications are required to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years EMS experience preferred.
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
• Paramedic course completion or equivalent required.
• AS degree or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls with professionalism and urgency.
• Assess, treat, stabilize, and transport patients in medical, trauma, or environmental emergencies.
• Provide life-saving treatment on scene and during transport to hospital.
• Operate emergency vehicles in high-pressure conditions under diverse road and weather.
• Support ED and hospital teams with clinical assistance and interventions.
• Collaborate with law enforcement, fire, and other responders for coordinated care.
• Monitor patient status and make real-time treatment decisions.
• Utilize defibrillators, ECGs, ventilators, monitors, and IV pumps.

What You'll Do

As a Paramedic, you will play an essential role in providing fast, high-quality emergency medical care through 911 response, inter-facility transport, public assistance services, and Emergency Department support across both pre hospital and hospital settings.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond promptly to emergency and non-emergency calls with professionalism, urgency, and compassion, delivering effective care to patients who are ill or injured
• Assess, treat, stabilize, and transport patients experiencing medical, trauma, or environmental emergencies
• Deliver immediate, life‑saving treatment and patient care both on scene and during transport to the hospital
• Safely operate emergency vehicles in high‑pressure situations across diverse road, weather, and traffic conditions
• Support patient care within the Emergency Department and hospital facilities by providing clinical assistance, technical assessments, and treatment interventions as needed
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, law enforcement, fire departments, Quick Response Units and other emergency responders to ensure coordinated, high‑quality patient care
• Monitor patient conditions continuously and make critical treatment decisions in real time
• Utilize advanced emergency medical equipment including defibrillators, ECG machines, ventilators, patient monitors, IV infusion pumps etc. to treat, resuscitate and stabilize patients
• Perform advanced invasive procedures within scope of practice when necessary, including Intubation, IV insertion, Medication administration, Cardioversion, Cricothyrotomy, Thoracotomy etc.
• Calculate and administer medication dosages and infusion rates based on rapidly changing patient conditions
• Collect and interpret diagnostic data to support critical clinical decision‑making and deliver effective patient‑centered care that promotes recovery and overall health
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary pre‑hospital teams to support coordinated, high‑quality patient care and effective care management

What We're Looking For

Experience & Education

Minimum 2 years of EMS experience preferred. High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required. Successful completion of a Paramedic course or equivalent required. Associate of Applied Science degree or equivalent preferred.

Licensures & Certifications

Montana Paramedic license / Registered Nurse with Certificate of Equivalency or Physician Assistant license required. Maintain active license by completing annual refresher training and ongoing continuing education requirements. National Registry (NREMT) & PHTLS certifications preferred. BLS, ACLS, and PALS required. NRP and EVOC required within one year or at the earliest available offering. Critical Care Transport endorsement required within 18 months. Valid Montana driver's license with an excellent driving record required.

PRN staff must attend all mandatory trainings and meetings and work a minimum of 3 shifts per 6‑week schedule.
