Job Title

Paramedic – Franklin Transport – FT

Position Summary

The Paramedic administers life support care and transports patients in pre‑hospital settings as authorized by a physician. The Paramedic performs a variety of acute and non‑acute skills during ground and/or air transport, responds to 911 medical emergencies, and provides cardiac and trauma support when needed. The Paramedic delivers initial treatment at the emergency scene, assesses patient responses, and makes adjustments as required. The Paramedic gathers and analyzes information, uses sound judgment when dealing with emotional topics, manages difficult customer situations, and maintains confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Assess the nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures or determine need for additional assistance. Synthesize complex information.
• Restore and stabilize heart rhythm in pulseless, non‑breathing patients. Initiate IV drug therapy to administer medication or replace fluids.
• Administer emergency procedures such as patient extrication, intubation, defibrillation, and operate under ACLS protocol. Provide injections of medications and drugs; initiate invasive and non‑invasive treatment at an advanced level; treat life‑threatening arrhythmias, respiratory compromise, shock, and trauma, specializing in pediatric care.
• Observe, record, and report to a physician or command‑center leader the patient’s condition, reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
• Maintain current knowledge of treatment techniques, protocol changes, new drug applications, materials, and equipment. Take responsibility for own actions and those of support team members.
• Prepare required reports and maintain activity records. Obtain patient information needed for insurance billing and understand covered vs. non‑covered charges for ambulance services and insurance guidelines. Coordinate activities with external entities when necessary.
• Check daily units assigned, clean and stock supplies, and report malfunctions to the in‑house mechanic. Maintain supplies and use resources appropriately.
• Transport patients to hospital and non‑hospital sites while observing safety guidelines.

Qualifications

Education: High school graduate or equivalent required.

• Experience: No experience required.
• Licensure/Certification: Certified paramedic in the state of Virginia. AHA BLS–HCP, ACLS, PALS, HazMat Awareness, NRP, and PHTLS or BTLS required within one year from hire date.
• Maintain advanced transport medical knowledge and abilities. Maintain an excellent driving record and be willing to operate a vehicle to emergency scenes. Provide current driving record and meet driver eligibility requirements. Maintain continuous education hours for re‑certification as required by state and national standards. Communicate effectively with staff, peers, patients, and family members. Write clearly and present numerical data and patient reports effectively. Maintain basic computer skills and applicable software.

Paid Rate

Paramedic rate starts at $25.77, with credit for experience.
