Job summary

Carilion Clinic is seeking a Paramedic for Radford Transport to administer life support care and transport patients in pre-hospital settings, responding to medical emergencies in a 911 setting and providing cardiac and trauma support as needed.

This flex/PRN position requires Virginia Paramedic certification, BLS–HCP, ACLS, PALS within one year, and a clean driving record; you will coordinate care, document patient data, and maintain equipment in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Education: High school graduate or equivalent required.
• Experience: No experience required.
• Licensure/Certification: Virginia Paramedic; BLS–HCP, ACLS, PALS, HazMat Awareness, NRP and PHTLS or BTLS within one year.
• Maintains advanced transport medical knowledge and abilities.
• Maintains an excellent driving record and may operate vehicle to emergency scene.
• Maintains continuing education hours to meet re-certification status as required by state and national standards.

Responsibilities

• Administers life support care and transport to patients in pre-hospital settings.
• Responds to medical emergencies in a 911 setting, protects life and administers cardiac and trauma support as needed.
• Administers initial treatment at the emergency scene, assesses patient response and makes necessary adjustments.
• Gathers and analyzes information and applies reason when dealing with emotional topics.
• Manages difficult customer situations and maintains confidentiality.
• Restores and stabilizes heart rhythm on pulseless, non-breathing patients.
• Initiates IV drugs to administer medication or replace fluids.
• Administers emergency procedures such as extrication, intubation, defibrillation, under ACLS protocol.
