The Paramedic provides advanced life support (ALS) emergency medical care to patients in pre-hospital, inter-facility transport, and emergency response settings across Alaska’s challenging environments. The Paramedic operates under the medical direction of the agency’s department-approved physician medical director and in full compliance with the Alaska Scope of Practice for Paramedics (7 AAC 26) and National EMS Scope of Practice standards.

- Respond promptly and safely to 911 emergency calls, scheduled transports, inter-facility transfers, and special events in varied Alaska conditions (roads, weather, trails, and remote areas).
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and deliver advanced life support, including advanced airway management (endotracheal intubation, supraglottic airways), IV/IO access, medication administration, ECG monitoring and interpretation, manual defibrillation/cardioversion, and other ALS procedures within scope.
- Administer medications per protocols and standing orders, including but not limited to ACLS medications, pain management, anti-arrhythmics, vasopressors, and other approved ALS drugs.
- Operate ambulances and emergency response vehicles safely under challenging Alaska road, weather, trail, and environmental conditions.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, receiving facilities, online medical control, and other providers via radio, phone, and electronic systems.
- Complete accurate, timely electronic patient care reports (ePCR) in compliance with NEMSIS, Alaska state reporting requirements, and agency standards.
- Restock, clean, and maintain unit equipment, vehicles, and station quarters at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Participate in continuing education, skills labs, quality improvement reviews, and agency training programs.
- Provide professional patient handoff and assist receiving providers at hospitals, clinics, or medevac aircraft.
- Support medevac operations as ground crew, including advanced patient packaging, stabilization, and safe transfer to fixed-wing or rotor-wing aircraft.

- Current State of Alaska Paramedic and/or (NREMT-P) license or ability to obtain via NREMT Paramedic reciprocity and Alaska licensure process within [30/60/90] days of hire.
- Current AHA ACLS, PALS (or equivalent), and BLS/Healthcare Provider CPR certifications.
- Valid Alaska driver’s license with a clean driving record acceptable to the agency’s insurance carrier.
- High school diploma or GED (college coursework or Associate’s degree in EMS preferred).
- Minimum 19 years of age.
- Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen, physical exam (including DOT if required), and fit-for-duty evaluation.
- Sponsorship and ongoing approval under the agency’s department-approved EMS physician medical director upon hire.Strong physical fitness and ability to lift, carry, and move patients and equipment in austere or remote environments.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed in Alaska’s unique conditions.
