The Emergency Technician (EMT-1) provides basic life support (BLS) emergency medical care to patients in pre-hospital, transport, and inter-facility settings throughout Alaska. The EMT-1 operates under the medical direction of the agency’s department-approved physician medical director and in full compliance with the Alaska Scope of Practice for EMT-1 (7 AAC 26).

- Respond to 911 calls, scheduled transports, and inter-facility transfers in a safe, timely, and professional manner.
- Perform patient assessment and provide BLS care including airway management, hemorrhage control, splinting, oxygen therapy, suction, CPR, and AED use.
- Administer or assist with medications within the EMT-1 scope (e.g., patient-prescribed epinephrine auto-injectors, nitroglycerin, bronchodilator inhalers, oral glucose, aspirin, and naloxone per agency protocols).
- Operate ambulances and emergency response vehicles safely under varied Alaska road, weather, and trail conditions.
- Communicate with dispatch, receiving facilities, and online medical control via radio and phone.
- Complete accurate, timely electronic patient care reports (ePCR) in compliance with NEMSIS and Alaska state reporting requirements.
- Restock, clean, and maintain unit equipment, vehicles, and quarters at the start and end of each shift.
- Participate in continuing education, skills labs, and quality improvement reviews.
- Provide professional patient handoff and assist receiving providers at hospitals, clinics, or medevac aircraft.
- Support medevac operations as a ground crew member, including patient packaging and transfer to fixed-wing or rotor-wing aircraft when applicable.

- Current State of Alaska EMT-1 certification or ability to obtain via NREMT reciprocity within [30/60/90] days of hire.
- Valid Alaska driver’s license with a clean driving record acceptable to the agency’s insurance carrier.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen, and DOT physical.
- Sponsorship under the department-approved EMS physician medical director upon hire.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, and move patients and equipment in austere or remote environments.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed.
