Qualifications

Summary
Provides safe and timely ground or helicopter transport of patients, while providing basic and critical care life support. Assists emergency health care providers to deliver care to critical patients.

Job Duties

  • Provides therapeutic intervention, emergency interventions, and preparation for transport (via ground or helicopter) from hospitals or accident scenes.
  • Functions as a primary or secondary caregiver to ensure that each patient receives treatment that is in accordance with all transport policies and procedures.
  • Evaluates critically ill or injured patients of all age groups (neonatal through adult).
  • Coordinates transport related phone calls, including inter-institutional or intra-institutional calls.
  • Shares responsibilities to complete post transport activities such as cleaning, refueling, and restocking ambulance supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains contact with dispatcher, transfer center, and/or MedEvac AOC on any problems or questions pertaining to duties and policies.
  • Handles respiratory management such as intubation and ventilation, EKG interpretation, IV access, medication administration, code management, and pain management.
  • Reviews charts to ensure complete and consistent documentation of patient records.
  • Follows Network/Department guidelines decontamination of work area and transport vehicle both daily and after every patient mission.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 5 years Paramedic experience
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software, MS Outlook, and EMR applications.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire
  • FP-C - Flight Paramedic - Certified BCCTPC - State of Pennsylvania within 2 Years or
  • CCP-C-Critical Care Paramedic-Certified BCCTPC - State of Pennsylvania within 2 Years
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support - State of Pennsylvania
  • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Program - State of Pennsylvania within 2 Years
  • DL - Driver's License_PA - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire
  • PA EMT-P Paramedic - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire


Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree
  • EMSVO Certification - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire


Physical Demands
Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
