About Lincoln Avenue Communities

Welcome to Lincoln Avenue Communities (LAC)—a leading, mission-driven real estate private equity firm dedicated to strengthening communities through the development and preservation of affordable housing.

As a vertically integrated developer, investor, and long-term operator, we deliver sustainable, high-quality homes to lower- and moderate-income individuals, seniors, and families across 33 states. Our growing portfolio—more than 200 properties and 30,000+ homes—reflects our commitment to long-term impact, operational excellence, and resident well-being.

LAC is proud to be recognized as an industry leader, recently ranked No. 1 on Affordable Housing Finance’s 2025 AHF 50 list of top developers. Our approach combines strategic investment, thoughtful design, and community partnerships to deliver housing solutions that foster stability, opportunity, and resilience.

About This Role

Our legal team is looking to hire an experienced Paralegal Manager with transactional experience in commercial real estate. This is a player-coach role: you will personally handle transaction tasks across all phases of the deal cycle while also leading, training, and mentoring a team of paralegals. Your deal work includes projects financed with low-income housing tax credits (LIHTC), tax-exempt bonds, HUD loans, and other state and local subsidies. You will also closely assist with entity formation, qualifications, reinstatements, document preparation and management, title and survey, due diligence, and the deal-closing process.

This position reports to Director, Legal Operations and leads a team of three to four paralegals, collaborating closely with the General Counsel, Associate General Counsel, and outside counsel.

This is a hybrid role with three (3) days in our Midtown offices in New York, NY.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of paralegals, providing day-to-day guidance, reviewing work product, establishing accountability, and supporting their professional growth.
  • Operate as a player-coach—independently managing transaction tasks on assigned projects while overseeing and elevating the work of the broader paralegal team.
  • Support how deals are assigned across the team, balancing workloads, deadlines, transaction complexity, and each paralegal's skills and capacity.
  • Exercise sound judgment and promptly elevate transactional, workload, or team issues to manager.
  • Design, manage, and continuously improve the team's workflows and processes so deals move efficiently through each phase.
  • Train and onboard paralegals, establishing consistent best practices and quality standards across the team's transactional work.
  • Prepare and revise entity formation and governance documents, including operating agreements, limited partnership agreements, formation certificates, incumbency certificates, written consents, resolutions, amendments, and other corporate documents, based on transaction requirements and direction from leadership.
  • Review title, survey, and title commitments and coordinate and prepare responses to title and survey comments from counterparties.
  • Perform due diligence, coordinate transactions, and work with the team to close affordable housing transactions.
  • Work directly with vendors to order various due diligence certificates, searches and other due diligence materials.
  • Work directly with title companies to finalize title policies for transactions.
  • Use project management tools and techniques to assist with work plans, budgeting, and tracking.
  • Track transaction tasks and phases and communicate progress, outstanding items, and resolved issues to relevant stakeholders.
  • Prepare signature page packets and coordinate signatures of various deal participants.
  • Prepare closing indices and binders and follow up on various post-closing matters.
  • Conduct research and gather information using general and legal research tools.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
What You Bring
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop a team.
  • Sound judgment to prioritize and assign work across a team while balancing competing deadlines and shifting deal priorities, and to proactively identify and elevate issues when appropriate.
  • Must have commercial real estate experience as well as corporate etiquette.
  • Ability to work and operate independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Keen attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and high-quality work product.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Exceptional document drafting and proofreading skills to ensure that all documents are error‑free, accurate, complete, and consistent.
  • A proactive, solution‑oriented approach and strong follow‑through in resolving issues and completing assignments.
  • A team‑oriented mindset and a passion for contributing to the Company's mission‑driven initiatives
Your Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of commercial real estate and/or corporate paralegal experience in a corporate environment.
  • Prior experience managing, supervising, training, or mentoring paralegals or other legal support staff is required, including responsibility for work allocation, training, mentoring, and reviewing work product.
  • Proven experience independently managing commercial real estate transactions is required.
  • Strongly preferred: Experience with affordable housing transactions, particularly Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) deals.
