Job summary

Sidley Austin LLP is seeking a senior Immigration Paralegal to manage complex business immigration matters, including nonimmigrant petitions, PERM, I-140/EB-1, RFEs, and work visa coordination. The ideal candidate has 10+ years of business immigration experience, a BA/BS, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat; familiarity with LawLogix is preferred.

The role includes mentoring junior staff and requires overtime with a salary range of $108,000–$130,000 in Illinois, plus bonus

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with clients, employees and families to provide immigration services through the application process
  • Prepare and monitor nonimmigrant petitions including H-1B, H-3, TN, E, J-1, L-1 and O-1
  • Oversee business immigration matters from initiation to approval (PERM, I-140, EB-1)
  • Respond to RFEs
  • Assist with work visa applications with U.S. consular offices abroad
  • Maintain records of immigration forms and activity for corporate clients
  • Manage case load using online case management system and generate reports
  • Serve as primary contact with clients and foreign nationals, coordinate communications
  • Research using government and immigration tools
  • Mentor and delegate work to junior staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Attorney or Paralegal Manager

Job description

This is a senior level position, responsible for a variety of Immigration Paralegal and case management responsibilities. This position will require overtime.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with clients, their employees and families to provide comprehensive immigration service through the entire application process, including responses to applications, requests for evidence, interviews and compliance
  • Prepare, manage and monitor a wide variety of business-based nonimmigrant petitions including H-1B, H-3, TN, E, J-1, L-1 and O-1
  • Oversee a variety of business based immigrant matters from initiation through approval including PERM Labor Certification, I-140, EB-1, etc.
  • Respond to RFEs
  • Assist with application and obtaining work visas with U.S. consular offices abroad
  • Compile and maintain records of immigration forms, other documentation and records of activity on behalf of corporate clients' employees
  • Actively manage case load using online case management system and reporting
  • Serve as key contact with client and foreign nationals; direct and manage communications; prioritize responses from legal team
  • Perform research using all available immigration research tools including government agency websites
  • Mentor and delegate work to junior Paralegals and Project Assistants
  • All other projects as assigned by an Attorney or the Paralegal Manager.
Education and/or Experience:
Required:
  • BA/BS with strong academic credentials
  • Proficient at Microsoft Office Applications and Adobe Acrobat
  • Familiarity with Formally and LawLogix, or other Immigration focused applications
  • Minimum of 10+ years of Business Immigration experience
Preferred:
  • Paralegal Certificate from an ABA approved school
  • Proficient using technology

The target salary range for this role is:

$108,000 - $130,000 if located in Illinois.

Salaries vary by location and are based on numerous factors, including, but not limited to, the relevant market, skills, experience, and education of the selected candidate.
