Job summary

The State of Colorado seeks a Paralegal to assist adult offenders with legal research, document preparation, and law library management in a secure facility setting. Responsibilities include supervising offender clerks, notary services, and ensuring access to legal materials in a penal environment.

Minimum qualifications include a paralegal certificate (ABA approved or accredited) or equivalent experience; a JD may substitute for the certificate.

Qualifications

• Paralegal certificate from ABA-approved program or accredited institution.
• Two (2) years of paralegal experience with legal research can substitute for the certificate.
• Juris Doctorate may substitute for the required certificate (unofficial transcripts required).

Responsibilities

• Provide legal research assistance to offenders and staff to locate proper legal authority.
• Monitor and manage offender legal access computers and word processing.
• Identify, categorize and log materials to be photocopied for court access; deliver to requesting offenders.
• Record data for monthly statistical reports on offender access and photocopy usage.
• Maintain inventories and ensure compliance with program policies.
