Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA) is seeking a Paralegal for our Santa Monica Right to Counsel program, focused on eviction defense and housing justice for low‑income tenants. The role supports staff attorneys, interviews clients, drafts pleadings, and participates in clinics and community outreach.

The position requires a four‑year degree or Paralegal Certificate, and one year of relevant experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• A four (4) year degree or Paralegal Certificate.
• One (1) year relevant work experience preferred.
• Experience assisting low-income or homeless individuals, including interviewing.
• Experience in diverse poverty law issues preferred.
• Some knowledge of landlord‑tenant law preferred.
• Self‑motivated with initiative and quick learning.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Organized with ability to handle a high-volume caseload.
• Flexible with job duties.
• Spanish language proficiency preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interview and counsel clients on various legal issues.
• Draft pleadings such as unlawful detainer answers and discovery.
• Participate in live in-person clinics and other community outreach projects.
• Collaborate with staff attorneys, support staff, students, volunteers, and community organizations.
• Other duties as assigned.
