Job summary

The Tampa, Florida office of Hall Booth Smith, PC is seeking an experienced litigation paralegal to support complex insurance defense matters, including medical malpractice defense experience welcomed.

Candidates will have 3+ years of experience, strong written and verbal communication, knowledge of Federal and State rules, and the ability to manage discovery, draft pleadings, subpoenas, and trial support in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist attorneys in complex state and federal cases from pleadings to trial.
• Perform initial case assessments and document discovery planning.
• Draft pleadings, scheduling orders, and motions for state and federal court.
• Draft discovery requests/responses and prepare privilege logs.
• Interpret and summarize medical records and bills; prepare subpoenas.
• Communicate with experts, adjusters, witnesses, clients, and opposing counsel.
• Schedule meetings, depositions, and mediations; assist with trial prep.

The Tampa, Florida office of Hall Booth Smith, PC experienced litigation paralegal The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of complex insurance defense litigation experience and knowledge of both Federal and State Rules. Medical Malpractice defense experience welcomed. Additional requirements include but are not limited to: excellent verbal and written communication skills; understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes; excellent organizational skills with attention to detail; excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines; strong analytical and problem solving skills; ability to function well in a high-paced environment; and a self-starter starter who takes initiative to complete daily tasks.

Specific responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

• Assist attorney(s) in complex state and federal cases from initial pleadings through trial;
• Perform initial case assessments to determine further document discovery to facilitate initial investigation of claim;
• Draft pleadings, scheduling orders, and motions for state and federal court;
• Draft discovery requests and responses to include the preparation of voluminous records for production and drafting of privilege logs;
• Interpret and summarize medical records and bills;
• Prepare subpoenas for records;
• Effectively communicate with experts, insurance adjusters, witnesses, clients, and opposing counsel;
• Schedule meetings, depositions, and mediations;
• Assist with jury selection and witness preparation for trial;
• Meet a billing requirement of 140 hours per month: and
• Assist with preparation of trial notebooks and exhibits.
