La Cava Jacobson, P.A. in Tampa, FL is hiring a Litigation Paralegal with 3+ years of Insurance Defense experience, preferably in medical malpractice and healthcare defense. This onsite role requires a college degree or paralegal certificate and a Florida Registered Paralegal (preferred).

You will support attorneys in a busy practice handling document management, trial prep, and research. Pay is $70,000–$85,000 per year.

Qualifications

• Paralegal degree or ABA‑approved certificate.
• Florida Registered Paralegal preferred.
• Trial experience preferred.
• Minimum of five years of experience required.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and manage client documents, including electronic data, and assess potential relevant files.
• Conduct litigation, criminal, and civil background checks and obtain records.
• Prepare documents for production with Bates labeling and redaction where needed.
• Assist in trial prep: manage exhibits, witness lists, subpoenas, and meetings; assist at trial.
• Conduct online research using firm resources.
• Handle multiple assignments and deadlines with professionalism.
• Summarize medical records, bills, and create medical chronologies.
• Communicate with clients, carriers, and counsel in a team setting.
• Coordinate with retained experts and liaise on qualifications and retention.
• Review vendor invoices and submit to Accounting.

The Tampa office of La Cava Jacobson, P.A. is currently seeking a Litigation Paralegal with 3+ years of prior Insurance Defense experience, preferably in the areas of medical malpractice and healthcare defense. Our Paralegals strive to perform high-quality billable work for the benefit of our clients and the support of our attorneys. We expect our paralegals to provide a high level of expertise in assisting clients and attorneys while managing a busy case and/or matter load.

Primary Responsibilities

• Demonstrated effectiveness at obtaining and managing client documents, including electronic data, and determining potential existence of documents that may be relevant to each case.
• Regularly conduct litigation, criminal, and civil background checks and obtains properly authenticated records as needed.
• Consistently and accurately identify and prepare all documents for production including bates labeling and redacting for privileged and confidential information.
• Effectively assists in preparation for trial including managing exhibits and all evidentiary matters, witness lists, files and subpoenas, coordinates and attends witness prep meetings; assists at trial.
• Conducts online research and able to utilize the firm's electronic resources efficiently and effectively.
• Able to juggle multiple assignments and/or deadlines while maintaining a professional demeanor and timely seeks assistance when needed.
• Summarize medical records, bills and supporting documents, as well as create medical chronologies and bill summaries.
• Communicate with clients, carriers, and counsel effectively in a team environment.
• Works closely with retained expert witness to include review of qualifications, selection, retention and serve as a general liaison between our firm and retained experts.
• Reviews and ensures accuracy of vendor invoices; timely submits invoices to Accounting for processing.

• College Degree and/or Paralegal Certificate from ABA Approved Program.
