We are seeking a Paralegal to support the North Carolina National Guard (NCNG) Office of Staff Judge Advocate (SJA) at the NCNG Joint Force Headquarters in Raleigh, NC.

What will the Paralegal at Terrestris do?

The Paralegal will provide services via phone, email, and in-person meetings, including scheduled appointments and walk-ins during regular hours, as well as at pre-deployment and post-deployment events for eligible Service Members and their families on civil legal matters. Responsibilities also include updating social media related to Legal Assistance, responding to messages within 2 days, sharing relevant legal topics every 3 days, and managing content on the public website.

A typical day for the Paralegal includes:

  • Providing administrative support across various legal areas, including:
    • Family Law: Assisting clients with understanding North Carolina Family Law, helping prepare pro-se filings related to marriage, paternity, child custody, financial support, separation, and divorce.
    • Estate Planning: Assisting in preparing estate planning documents such as wills, trusts, health care directives, and powers of attorney.
    • Real Property: Helping clients understand Landlord-Tenant Law and drafting related documents.
    • Economic Law: Conducting research and drafting responses on debt disputes, bankruptcy, consumer issues, and rights under the Service-members Civil Relief Act.
    • Civilian Administrative Law: Handling cases like name changes, immigration, and naturalization.
    • Military Administrative Law: Preparing responses for investigations, appeals, and personnel actions, formatted per AR 25-50 standards.
    • Taxes: Preparing and filing federal and state income tax returns via VITA.
    • Preventive Law: Providing briefings and educational handouts during pre-mobilization events.

Qualifications:

  • Paralegal Certificate or Bachelor's Degree with legal emphasis from an accredited institution.
  • Familiarity with North Carolina law.
  • Ability to respond effectively to legal assistance requests and perform legal research.
  • At least two years of practical legal analysis experience.
  • Proficiency in drafting estate planning documents and legal responses.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for client interactions.
