Job description

The Paralegalreports to the Prosecutor Administrative Supervisor. The primary functions of this position include:

  • Monitors and reviews Defendant’s compliance with the State’s Diversion Program, including drafting of procedural motions for attorney review and filing.
  • Assists attorneys with trial preparation including evidence review; witness interviews; digital evidence redactions, disclosure and video clips; preparation of trial notebooks; issuance of witness subpoenas and subpoena duces tecums.
  • Research and assistance with drafting responses to substantive motions, appeals and special actions; may include other pleadings at the request and direction of the attorney.
  • Schedule and facilitate defense interviews with civilian witnesses and officers as needed including assisting with Motions for Deposition filed by defense counsel.
  • Prepares and monitors cases referred to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for charging.
  • Performs and monitors case activities for compliance with legal time constraints including responding to discovery requests in an appropriate and timely manner and updating disclosures as additional evidence or documents are identified.
  • Interface with Department of Public Safety, Arizona Criminal Justice Information System (ACJIS); perform agency security functions and provide operator training and certification.

This position is an At-Will position and is FLSA Non-Exempt - eligible for overtime compensation.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice or a related field, and 1 year of continued experience in a criminal law office or related environment, or
  • Associate’s Degree/Certificate from an ABA-approved Paralegal program; and 3 years of continued experience in a criminal law office or related environment as a paralegal or legal assistant using specialized legal software; or any equivalent combination.
  • A Paralegal Certificate is preferred.
  • Maintain ACJIS certification from the Arizona Department of Public Safety
