Job summary

Maricopa County in Arizona is seeking a Paraprofessional Supervisor for the Office of the Public Advocate. This role supervises Defender Investigators and Mitigation Specialists while maintaining a caseload.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage the performance of paraprofessional staff, including workload meetings and coverage.
  • Hire and train new paraprofessional staff and facilitate development efforts.
  • Assign work and monitor workloads for assigned staff.
  • Maintain an active caseload.
  • Interact with attorneys, management, and clients regarding cases.
  • Review case documentation and assist in defense strategies.
  • Travel weekly to multiple office locations to support staff.
  • Ensure compliance with office practices and procedures; identify improvements.
  • Attend leadership meetings to discuss office needs.

Job Contributions
  • Supervise and manage the performance of a group of paraprofessionals including conducting workload and progress meetings, coordinating leave and coverage, training in proper investigative techniques, handling disciplinary matters, preparing performance plans and evaluating staff performance
  • Hires and trains new paraprofessional staff as well as facilitate development efforts of assigned staff
  • Assign work and assignment requests to available staff and monitor workloads
  • Maintain an active caseload
  • Interact with attorneys, management, co-workers, clients, other agencies, and interested parties regarding cases and/or clients
  • Review case documentation and assists in the development of defense strategies and case theories
  • Travel weekly to multiple office locations (Durango, Mesa) to be accessible to the paraprofessional staff at these locations
  • Ensure compliance with Office practices and procedures; address concerns; work to improve operations, streamline work processes and identify continuing needs
  • Attend leadership meetings as needed to provide updates and participate in discussions pertaining to office issues and the needs of the paraprofessional staff
Working Conditions
  • Requires the ability to work with traumatic subject matter (crime scenes, accidents, etc.) in a fast-paced environment with frequent stressful situations
  • Work may be performed in office and other enclosed areas, as well as various outside locations
  • May require long periods of sitting while completing paperwork, standing and moving about during course of performing duties. Accuracy; decision making; and concentration/vigilance are constant requirements. Interruptions; time pressure; high volume of work; handling multiple or complicated tasks; unscheduled tasks; frequently changing tasks; teamwork; working in close physical proximity with others; and public contact are frequent occurrences
  • Work requires travel to and from job related locations during the course of a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of County vehicles and/or private vehicles on County business
