Job summary

Ascendion partners with a well-established Chicago law firm to recruit an experienced Paralegal for Insurance Defense/Civil Defense matters. The role involves supporting attorneys through all litigation stages, drafting and organizing documents, managing case files, and coordinating discovery.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years’ paralegal experience in defense litigation, strong organizational and communication skills, and proficiency with MS Office and case management software.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of paralegal experience in Insurance Defense, Civil Defense, or general Litigation.
• Strong understanding of the litigation process and civil procedure.
• Experience preparing discovery, pleadings, and trial materials.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal case management software.
• ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist attorneys throughout all phases of litigation, from case inception through trial.
• Draft, review, and organize legal documents, pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and correspondence.
• Manage case files and maintain accurate litigation calendars, deadlines, and court filings.
• Coordinate document production and discovery responses.
• Review, summarize, and organize medical records, deposition transcripts, and other case-related documents.
• Communicate with clients, expert witnesses, insurance adjusters, opposing counsel, and court personnel.
• Prepare trial notebooks, exhibits, witness files, and other trial materials.
• Perform legal research and assist with case investigations as needed.
• Support attorneys with hearing, mediation, and trial preparation.

Location: Chicago, IL (Onsite)

Compensation: Up to $88,000 annually (DOE)

We are partnering with a well-established and highly respected law firm in Chicago that is seeking an experienced Paralegal to join its Insurance Defense/Civil Defense practice.
