Job summary

Kelso School District seeks a paraeducator at Lexington Elementary School to support MTSS-A and provide targeted intervention services. The role includes serving as a recess liaison and helping foster meaningful family engagement.

The position is 4 hours per day (10:00 am–2:30 pm), 188 days per year, with benefits under PESB and the district’s Collective Bargaining Agreement. Regular attendance and collaboration with staff are essential.

Qualifications

  • Be at least eighteen years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent, and meet one of the approved options.
  • Ability to lift/transfer students up to 21 years with assistance.
  • Experience or training with students is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with mathematics, reading, and writing under supervision of certified staff.
  • Support MTSS-A implementation, including data collection and progress monitoring.
  • Assist in English language learning and instructional delivery.
  • Maintain instructional materials and records; administer assessments as directed.
  • Provide computer and technical support to students.
  • Supervise students in cafeteria and on school grounds; act as recess liaison.

Location: Lexington Elementary School-Para Intervention/Family Engagement
Position Details: 4 hrs/day, 10:00 am to 2:30pm; 188 days/year.
Potential reduction hours due to Wednesday early release, early dismissals for parent conferences, holidays, and last day of school; reduction hours subject to change. Job assignment and/or building assignment are subject to change based on program needs determined by the district.
Pay Range: PSE 1 Salary Schedule

This paraeducator position supports the success of students by assisting in the implementation of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports - Academics (MTSS-A), delivering targeted intervention services, serving as a recess liaison, and helping foster meaningful family engagement. This role is a key part of the Title I/LAP program and works closely with certified staff to enhance student learning outcomes.
Essential Functions

  • Work with individuals and/or groups of students on assigned tasks in the areas of mathematics, reading, and writing in the implementation of the educational program under the direction of hte certified teachers or specialists
  • Support MTSS-A implementation, including assisting with data collection, student progress monitoring, and providing intervention
  • Work with individuals and/or groups of students in learning English and in the implementation of the educational program
  • Maintain records and produce instructional materials as needed
  • Administer assessments as directed
  • Provide computer and technical support to students as directed
  • Supervise students in the cafeteria, classroom, on school grounds and in the community as needed. Serve as recess liaison by managing equipment, updating recess guides and materials
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies
  • Must have regular and consistent attendance
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated awareness and appreciation of diversity among individual students and the ability to set appropriate expectations for individual students
  • Previous experience or training in working with students preferred
  • Must have physical ability to lift, position and/or transfer students (with assistance as may be required) up to 21 years of age
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with teachers, parents and students
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member and be able to project a positive, friendly and caring attitude toward others
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to participate in activities and responsibilities as assigned by the classroom teacher
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently under the direction of the classroom teacher, while accepting direction and constructive criticism
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters appropriately and ethically Demonstrated ability to work with student records and data collection
  • Ability to effectively supervise students in all school areas
  • Willingness to participate in classroom team meetings, in-service offerings and local workshops and other professional development and training related to instructional support, student academics/behavior, and family engagement
  • Demonstrated ability to use proper grammar and spelling in written and oral communication and be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to use multiple communication systems such as email, computers, document readers, and smart boards
  • Neat, clean personal appearance and personal traits that make him/her a good role model for students; work apparel should be appropriate for a professional and safe work environment
Education
  • Be at least eighteen years of age, hold a high school diploma and/or equivalent, AND must meet at least one of the following options:
  • Have received a passing score on one of the assessments approved by PESB (Professional Educator Standards Board)
  • Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university
  • Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university
  • Have completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council (WSATC)**
  • Must complete training on the Fundamental Course of Study within the timelines described in RCW 28A.413.070 in years that the program is funded by the legislature
