KELSO SCHOOL DISTRICT seeks a Special Education Teacher - Resource for Barnes Elementary at .50 FTE. Leave replacement for the 2026/27 school year. Salary follows the KEA Salary Schedule with benefits including medical/dental/vision/life/disability and paid time off.

The role requires WA state Special Education certification, expertise in IEPs, data-driven planning, and teamwork with staff, parents, and paraeducators to support diverse learners.

Qualifications

• Valid WA teaching certificate with Special Education Endorsement.
• Knowledge of current trends in curriculum and instructional techniques.
• Experience in special education.
• Knowledge and skills in educational technology and ability to integrate tech into instruction.
• Willingness to work cooperatively with administration, parents and staff.
• Experience in diagnostic testing and remediation of learning problems.
• Expertise or experience in behavior management.
• Ability to adapt curriculum to students' interests and learning styles.
• Experience with diverse students and ability to set appropriate expectations.
• Bilingual or multilingual desired.

Essential Functions

• Participate in development and implementation of IEPs, FBA's, BIP's, ERP's for special education students
• Undertake with the timely submission of IEPs and progress reports
• Plan and implement learning activities for students with varied abilities
• Organize programs to provide for individual differences
• Maintain current Crisis Prevention Institute Training
• Evaluate, develop and modify curriculum for individual student needs in general education classroom and in special education
• Demonstrate a knowledge of behavior de-escalation technique and positive support plans
• Demonstrate skill in preparing special education students to meet the state essential learnings
• Demonstrate the ability to relate to all students in a warm, accepting manner
• Demonstrate a knowledge and application of growth and development of school-age children
• Maintain appropriate student records and continuous measurement data on student progress
• Demonstrate knowledge and skill in organizing and maintaining the educational setting
• Conduct conferences with parents to report student progress toward meeting IEP goals and objectives, and progress in core content areas
• Communicate and interpret the school program to parents and patrons
• Work cooperatively with staff members
• Ability to supervise paraeducators
• Demonstrate skills in using group process
• Demonstrate skill in collaboration and co-teaching

Qualifications

• Demonstrated expertise and/or experience in behavior management
• Demonstrated willingness and ability to work effectively with students and parents
• Demonstrated ability to adapt curriculum to students' interests and learning styles
• Demonstrated successful experience working with disabled students of various ages/levels
• Demonstrated awareness and appreciation of diversity among individual students and the ability to set appropriate expectations for individual students
• Bilingual or multilingual desired
• Knowledge of essential learnings and ability to integrate them into the classroom
• Ability to use a variety of assessment strategies, including preparing students for state required testing
• Demonstrated desire to continue professional growth
• Demonstrated ability to work as a team member
