Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a Paraeducator for Special Education for the 2026-27 school year. The full-time position spans 184 days at 6.5 hours per day, with 3 positions available. Start date is 8/31/26, and insurance benefits apply for assignments of 6 hours or more per day.

Responsibilities include supporting instruction, behavior management, progress monitoring, and assisting with students’ physical needs. Minimum qualifications include a HS diploma, provisional ParaEducator certification within 30

Qualifications

• ParaEducator certification required within 30 days of start.
• 60 semester/90 quarter credits or an associate degree (or higher) or have passed the ParaEducator/ParaPro exam.
• Good communication, interpersonal and record-keeping skills.
• Ability to work with technology and computers.
• Ability to supervise students.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds and perform duties including toileting, feeding and self-care procedures.
• Must be physically working in the building.

Duties

• Assists in the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room or center based settings.
• Managing behavior (redirecting, calming or removing a disruptive student from the classroom).
• Monitoring and recording student progress in instructional areas (academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, social skills, etc.).
• Managing physical needs (toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, transporting students in wheelchairs, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Personal Care Assistant certification required to be completed within 30 days of start date.
• Completed 60 semester/90 quarter credits or obtained an associate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution or have passed the ParaEducator exam or ParaPro exam (documentation will be required).
• Good communication, interpersonal and record‑keeping skills.
• Ability/desire to work with technology and computers.
• Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff.
• Ability to supervise students.
• Ability to take direction.
• Ability to maintain regular attendance, which includes completing an assigned day.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds and perform the position responsibilities, including physical factors, work devices, materials handling, data functions and people functions, but not limited to toileting, feeding and self‑care procedures, implementing a behavioral management program; maintaining student data; working with students who may display aggressive, abusive, or inappropriate verbal and/or physical behavior.
• Must be physically working in the building.

Rate of Pay

$20.85/hour to $25.50/hour DOQ with K‑12 experience.

$22.00/hour to $26.65/hour with AA/AAS degree or 60 semester/90 quarter credits from a regionally accredited institution, DOQ with K‑12 experience.

$22.85/hour to $27.50/hour with BA degree from a regionally accredited institution, DOQ with K‑12 experience.

Special Ed Paras serving Center based students and classrooms 50 percent or more of their time shall receive an additional $0.50 per hour.

Special Ed Paras at Two Rivers Transition Program shall receive an additional $1.00 per hour.

Special Ed Paras at River Trail Learning Center shall receive an additional $1.50 per hour.
