Job summary

Sylvania in Minnesota is seeking a Paraeducator for Special Education. This full-time role spans 184 days at 6.5 hours per day and supports students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room or center-based settings.

You will assist with instruction, behavior management, progress monitoring, and helping with daily living skills. Qualifications include a High School Diploma or equivalent, required Personal Care Assistant certification within 30 days, and 60 sem/90 qtr credits or an associate

Job description

Paraeducator Special Education

Full‑Time 184 days/6.5 hrs/day

Duties

Assists in the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room or center‑based settings. Duties may include:

• Managing behavior (redirecting, calming or removing a disruptive student from the classroom)
• Monitoring and recording student progress in instructional areas (academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, social skills, etc.)
• Managing physical needs (toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, transporting students in wheelchairs, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Personal Care Assistant certification required, to be completed within 30 days of start date.
• Must have completed 60 semester / 90 quarter credits, obtained an associate degree (or higher), or passed the Para‑Educator or ParaPro exam. (Documentation will be required)
• Good communication, interpersonal and record‑keeping skills.
• Ability/desire to work with technology and computers.
• Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff.
• Ability to supervise students.
• Ability to take direction.
• Ability to maintain regular attendance, including completing an assigned day.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
• Must be physically able to perform position responsibilities, including physical factors, work devices, materials handling, data functions and people functions, but not limited to toileting, feeding and self‑care procedures, implementing behavioral management program, maintaining student data, and working with students who may display aggressive, abusive, or inappropriate verbal and/or physical behavior.
• Must be physically working in the building.

Rate of Pay

$20.85/hour to $24.15/hour DOQ with K‑12 experience.

$22.00/hour to $25.30/hour with AA/AAS degree or 60 semester/90 quarter credits from a regionally accredited institution, DOQ with K‑12 experience.

$22.85/hour to $26.15/hour with BA degree from a regionally accredited institution, DOQ with K‑12 experience.

Special Ed Paras serving Center‑based students and classrooms 50 percent or more of their time shall receive an additional $0.50 per hour.

Special Ed Paras at Two Rivers Transition Program shall receive an additional $1.00 per hour. Special Ed Paras at River Trail Learning Center shall receive an additional $1.50 per hour.

*Candidates must have completed 60 semester/90 quarter credits or obtained an associate's degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution or passed the ParaEducator exam or ParaPro exam. (Documentation will be required)
