Specialized Duties

• ELL/Migrant Instruction and Translation Services
• Health Room
• Computer Lab and Technology Support
• Special Education Resource and Life Essentials

General Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and a minimum of 72 college quarter credits from a nationally accredited institution or ETS test required.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Accuracy and efficiency at completing tasks on time without constant supervision.
• Positive relationship building with students, parents, staff, and supervisory staff.
• Effective work with small groups or individual students under the supervision of certified staff.
• Accurate record keeping.
• Willingness to respond with compassion to students needing assistance with personal care, including verbally coaching students through such situations.

Specific Job Responsibilities

• Meet performance expectations outlined in MLSD #161 Classified Employee Performance Evaluation.
• Always punctual; inform supervisor early of absences and enter absence in district absence management system.
• Maintain well‑groomed and neat appearance; dress appropriately for job assignment.
• Lift up to 50 pounds.
• Promptly and accurately follow specific instructions, performing duties with a positive attitude.
• Follow duty schedule as assigned.
• Follow prescribed behavior plans as assigned.
• Apply appropriate discipline according to district procedures and behavior plans.
• Work independently and solve problems with minimal supervision.
• Work well with special needs children individually or in small groups to communicate appropriate learning objectives as outlined in their IEP under supervision of certified staff.
• Build positive relationship with special needs students.
• Encourage special needs students to develop positive relationships with peers.
• Willing to receive Non‑violent Crisis Intervention and Non‑violent Restraint training.
• Effectively intervene and control students who are out of control (e.g., fighting, acting out, tantrums) by using approved restraining methods.
• Receive training to gain understanding of specific disabilities.
• Responsible for supervising special needs students in classroom, upon arrival and departure from school, and monitoring activities to ensure safety and compliance with school rules.
• Provide emergency first aid as necessary; hold current First Aid card.
• Assist medically fragile children as needed.
• Work with students with behavior difficulties.
• Interpret communication when the individual has multiple language skills.
• Maintain excellent attendance.
• Maintain district‑assigned email; read and respond to messages daily.
• Other duties as assigned.
