Job summary

Ledyard School District is seeking a Paraeducator for Gallup Hill School in Ledyard, CT to support classroom instruction under certified staff supervision. The role supports reading, language arts, math, and computer instruction, and includes field trip supervision and non-instructional duties.

The Paraeducator assists students with special needs and follows safety rules. Two years of college credit or an associate degree, or ParaPro is required, with a 28.5 hour workweek and a starting hourly

Job description

Gallup Hill School is seeking Paraeducators- RISE. The Paraeducator, under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, assists with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives.
Job Responsibilities:

• Assists and guides students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills
• Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs
• Assists professional staff in the administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessments
• Assists in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs
• Assists with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance
• Assists with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task
• Assists students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, study hall, and other related non-instructional areas
• Accompanies students on field trips for the purpose of assisting with supervision
• Constructs, copies and distributes and use educational materials as needed
• Assists students with special needs in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion, learning, achievement if IEP objectives, etc
• Assists students with physical or mental disabilities with activities of daily living for the purpose of maximizing their ability to participate in school or learning activities
• Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs
• Assists guidance, pupil services staff or building administration, as needed
• Performs any other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Two years of college credit (60) or hold an associate's (or higher) degree or evidence of having passed Para Pro Assessment
• Previous experience working with students in inclusive and small group settings preferred
• Previous experience working with special education students preferred
• Prior experience working with special needs students preferred
• Willingness to be trained to assist all instructional and behavioral needs of the students
• Works in standard office and school building environments
• Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities
• May require placing and securing students on a bus and riding the bus to and from school daily of some students
• Travel between schools, or between schools and central offices, may be required for certain positions
• Position can require physical interaction with students who have difficulty regulating emotions and controlling behavior.
• Must occasionally lift, move, or support other staff with physically escorting students and toileting.

• Starting pay $18.79per hour ($18.04 per hour plus .75 stipend per hour for RISE program)
