Job summary

Edmonds School District is seeking a Paraeducator I to support Kindergarten classrooms. This 3.75-hour daily, 181-day position assists with instructional support, student supervision, and material preparation, working with certificated staff to help create safe, engaging learning environments.

Qualifications

  • Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Meet one of the listed education/experience options (associate degree or higher; 72 quarter credits; 48 semester credits; apprenticeship).
  • Must pass PESB approved assessments or have completed related training.
  • Successful candidates complete mandatory in-person training prior to start date.

Shift Details:3.75 hours a day; 181day calendar
Non-Continuing Position:This position is non-continuing for the2026-2027school year only. Typically, non-continuing assignments fill a variety of temporary vacancies to help the school district meet a short-term work demand. This work assignment expires on the end date of employment and there is no reasonable assurance for work after the end date. An employee's total work hours and the designated beginning and ending times may vary.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience:

  • Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent
  • In addition, a paraeducator must meet one of the following:
  1. Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university
  2. Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university
  3. Completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council
  4. Received a passing score on one of the following PESB approved assessments:
    • Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment
    • Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program

* * Successful candidates are required to complete mandatory, in-person training/orientation prior to their official start date.

Licenses/Special Requirements:

  • Possession of valid First Aid and CPR Certifications or willingness to acquire depending on job assignment.
  • Certification of de-escalation and physical restraint training is required for all employees who work in a self-contained classroom.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with students in an educational setting and/or evidence of an interest in supporting learning experiences.
  • Training with cultural, ethnic and language diversity.

Benefits:

The Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) provides access to health care services. Our benefits are provided to eligible positions through SEBB (School Employees Benefits Board). Eligibility for SEBB state health insurance coverage is determined by working 630 hours during the school year.

Eligibility for a state retirement plan through the Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) is determined upon hire and is based on a variety of factors.
