Position Information

This position works collaboratively with lead instructors, classroom teachers, and staff in preschool classrooms or other learning environments. Assists with a variety of instructional support activities to promote social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and academic growth needed for kindergarten. Prepares educational materials and assists in implementing curriculum; communicates/collaborates with families, assesses student development; monitors students' progress, behavior, and safety. Performs routine clerical tasks to support teachers and other district staff.

Shift Details: 3.25 - 6.5 hours per day, Mon.-Thurs.; Special Calendar (actual number of paid work days depends on start date and schedule)

Continuing & Non-Continuing Positions: This is a pool posting for numerous open positions. The status, work locations, work hours, and work schedules will be determined by the specific vacancy the applicant accepts.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Hourly Rate: $31.21 to $35.06 (2025-26 Classified Support Staff Salary Schedule)

Required Qualifications

• Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent
• In addition, a paraeducator must meet one of the following:

1. Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university
2. Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university
3. Completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council
4. Received a passing score on one of the following PESB approved assessments:

• Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment
• Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program
• In addition, ECEAP Paraeducators must meet one of the following qualifications: 1) have the equivalent of 12 college quarter credits in early childhood education; or 2) hold an initial or higher Washington State Early Childhood Education Certificate; or 3) hold a current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential awarded by the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition.

Licenses / Special Requirements

• Possession of valid First Aid and CPR Certifications or ability to acquire depending on job assignment.
• Possession of Food Handler permit within 90 days of hire.
• Certification of de-escalation and physical restraint training is required for all employees who work in a self-contained classroom.
• Complete a background clearance check, in accordance to WAC 110-06-0040.
• Provide proof of tuberculosis (TB) testing or treatment in accordance to WAC 110-300-0105(3).
• Provide proof of measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) immunization or proof of immunity in accordance RCW 43.216.690.

* Must complete two full days (14 hours) of FCS Training. This in-person training is mandatory for all paraeducators.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working with students in an educational setting and/or evidence of an interest in supporting learning experiences.
• Experience working with students with physical or cognitive disabilities and/or behavior challenges or social/emotional issues desirable.
• Training with cultural, ethnic and language diversity.

The Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) provides access to health care services. Our benefits are provided to eligible positions through SEBB (School Employees Benefits Board). Eligibility for SEBB state health insurance coverage is determined by working 630 hours during the school year.

Eligibility for a state retirement plan through the Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) is determined upon hire and is based on a variety of factors.
