Job summary

Berkley School District is seeking a Paraeducator - Bus Support to assist with student transportation and safety needs in Berkley, MI. The role requires working a limited schedule of 9 hours per week with afternoon hours as outlined.

The candidate should be prepared to manage medical needs during transit, maintain records, and support classroom staff while exhibiting flexibility and teamwork.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; 2 years of college preferred.
• Positive, upbeat individual who is caring and flexible.
• Applicant must be cooperative, dependable, show initiative, and accept direction.
• Seizure Training within 2 years or willing to be trained.
• C.P.R. Training within 2 years or willing to be trained.
• C.P.I. training with current record or willing to be trained.
• Able to lift at least 50 pounds, stoop, bend and kneel on one or both knees.

Responsibilities

• Ride school bus from curb to curb for student support.
• Monitor students for medical emergencies.
• Assist with loading and unloading of students.
• Assist with securing students in seats and wheelchairs.
• Assist in medical emergencies.
• Maintain medication records on and off the bus.
• Read and have knowledge of existing medical plans for students.
• The applicant may need to assist student at lunch time.
• The applicant will maintain flexible hours of employment and adjust working time to the student's needs as determined by the classroom teacher and other school professional staff.
• Assist the teacher in maintaining inventory of equipment, supplies and materials.
• Assist in maintaining files and records.
• The applicant will perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher, special education coordinator and building administrator.

COMPENSATION: Per the Berkley Education Association of Paraeducators (BEAP)
